It is a heros journey aboard a luxurious riverboat, SHIVA, set in the festive and volatile antebellum South- a story about civilians coping with life prior to and during the American Civil War.Zeke, torn from family and familiar surroundings, encounters highwaymen, bounty hunters, gamblers and freemen of color who shape his view and lead him to a new way of life. Two men play significant roles in his search for truth and freedom: C.T. Hammond, owner of SHIVA, and Char, a dangerous Creole who becomes Zekes mentor, personal spirit of evil and ultimate nemesis. C.T. endows Zeke with friendship and fortune, but saddles him with a pledge that threatens to overpower him and leads to a final showdown with Char. ZEKE by Harry Hoge
